Before leaving this beloved world, she dedicated an invaluable gift, which was accumulated from her heart and talent, to Huế – her homeland. She is Điềm Phùng Thị – a renowned sculptor; and the present is her own art works together with the French style residence where she lived during the last days of her life.
This Huế native woman, born in 1920, spent most of her life in France where she adopted sculpture, and discovered her strong love and talent for it. Sculpture found Điềm Phùng Thị when she was in her thirties, and witnessed her success in about a dozen years later. And in the last years of her life, she was recognized as a member of the prestigious European Academy for Science, Literature and Arts.
She’s famous for her stone and bronze statues, and the world is especially amazed by the art works which come from her clever combination of the so-called “seven modules”. Those modules are believed to be the shapes of the throwaway pieces of woods. The monotonous modules lively reflects the miracles of our universe under Diem’s magic hands.
Nowadays, you can come and admire her art works displayed in the French style villa or purposely placed in the garden – under the willow trees or beside the frangipanis at Contemporary Art Museum of Điềm Phùng Thị at No. 1 Phan Bội Châu Str., Huế.
